Lineage of Pukulan Cimande Combat

Below is a lineage chart and format that is used by Pukulan Cimande Schools, so students can trace back their lineage. The use of the term Well, and River are to give respect and linkage to the Cimande aspects. I have only used the names of the Gurus that have a direct lineage to my learning. They are many other very highly respected Gurus in our Family tree. Having a lineage is important to understand what came before us, very skillful dedicated people who have kept the Art alive for us to learn, and in doing so, we are blessed by having this Art in our lives. To return this favour we can pass the Art onto the next generation, by doing this simple act, we keep this beautiful Art alive, so the River of Cimande Knowledge keeps flowing through all our and future lives!

The Well - The Art itself
First River - The Founders, i.e. Oei Kim Boen and Mas Djut Bang Salemoen
Second River - Mas Goeroe Agoeng Willy Wetzel.
Third River - Goeroe Malterer,
Forth River - Pendekar Sanders
Fifth River - Guru Besar Liam McDonald
Sixth River - Guru Dan, Guru Jon, Guru Robert etc... (Students of mine who have reach Guru Level)
Seventh River - Students of the above Guru's

The power of the Slap

One of the most underestimate tools use in Combat is the slap. Usually thought off as a very feline technique to use in combat, its mostly forgotten by men. This is usually down to lack of knowledge of how to fully deliver a powerful slap and what parts of the attacker body to aim at. Slapping is a painful, powerful and disorientating technique especially when use with good body mechanics which bring in the power and motion of using your whole body behind the blow and not just you shoulder !

In training the past couple of weeks students have been working on developing this tool and there are 5 main types of slapping techniques #1 Straight Palm Slap - This can be done to front of attacker face or chest. #2 Inside Slap - Is a slap which is travelling inwards across the center of your Body which targets the side of face. #3 Outside Slap - Is a slap which is travelling outwards from the center of your body it targets the side of face. #4 Inside Slap Travelling Upwards which targets the chin - A slap which comes from a low position and travels upwards. #5 Tiger Claw Slap - This Blows targets the Attacker Groin.

Students should train these techniques singularly than in combinations adding in Elbows, Knees and Headbutts to develop a very complete array of striking tools.

Intro Course

We offer a Intro Package to all of our classes. This is opportunity for new students to come in and try Silat - Kali to experience all that we have to offer. The Intro package has two options

1) One class a week for 8 weeks. 2) Two classes a week for 4 weeks. During the Intro period we will supply all the training equipment you will need, no uniform to buy, no contract. At the end of the Intro Course you can decide if this is something you wish to gain furthur knowledge on and you can become a member or if you feel this is not for you, you can simply walk away.

So what kind of training does a student learn during this time? We teach the fundamentals of striking using basic core techniques such as Slapping, Knees and Elbows along with Kicking. We will cover the most common forms of street attacks and along with the defence to get out of these more common forms of attacks, we will teach you awareness and prevention tips. Each class you will have a cardio workout on pads and a light stretching warm up to loosing the joints.

Most nights you will try simple co ordination drills to help you develop your body mechanics, and each night we finish with something for everyone! Where the whole class gets together and try out a new technique or a concept.

Training is informal and fun. We treat everyone with equal respect and when you leave class you be sweating and smiling. So if you feel you want to open yourself up to a new experience and try silat or Kali give me a call 087 9956569 or email guruliam@hotmail.com and registered yourself a place. Hopefully see you soon !
