PCC Syllabus Book and Dvd's coming soon !!!

The Pukulan Cimande Combat Training syllabus Book is now ready, and all students will begin receiving their books in classes from today. This is the first time the syllabus has been put together in a book format and gives a very detail complete picture of the Art. Students who are on our long distance training programmes will received their books in the post over the next week to ten days.

With this project complete we will begin shortly filming and editing a series of digital high quality training dvd's which will follow the syllabus. This will allow students for the first time, to see all the material on their grading section recorded on one dvd. We also plan over the next 18 months to release new dvds on areas such as Pukulan Cimande Combat : Pendang, PCC: Kunjang, PCC:Keris, PCC:Trumbu, PCC: Kanching as well as dvd covering Internal Sparring, Lankas, Progression of Destruction, Principles of Combat and Jurus. Its is our long time goal to not only offer our students a complete combat system, but to also do our part in preserving this beautiful art of Pukulan Cimande for future generations.

Pukulan Cimande Combat Blueprint

This is the blueprint for our training. It is not set in stone, as a Silat Fighter is train to adapt and change to meet the numerous differences in self defence, he / she may experience. However most Attacks do follow a general overall plan, and so the blueprint deals with this.

#1 Move rhythmically and slowly to mentally calm and bring the opponents level of anxiety and adrenaline down.

#2 When the opportunity arises explode at the opponent using off -timing Zig Zag (Kilap ) footwork with stomping and slapping to add to auditory and visual disruption.

#3 As you enter your Attacker space destroy his base with powerful strong kicks, like the Lead Leg Joint Kick, low line Hook Kick adding smashing fast punches like the Back Hand Speed Punch to the face.

#4 If the Attacker is not stopped, attacked his Vulnerable nerve centers in soft targets such as eyes, throat, groin etc.. adding in Elbow and Knee strikes to weaken the attacker. Use Sweeps or pushes to knock the Attacker to the ground.

#5 If during stage #2 the Attacker evades your Kilap footwork , or proves to quick for you, than close the gap either with Pukulan Wall ( a series of fast penetrating punches and kicks) or use constantly changing decoy postures, which are done at various heights and speed to draw an attacker into a false weakness, which you can re -counter and go into stage #3

#6 If the attacker at any times grabs you and cant re - counter his hold, and he throws/pushes you to the ground, drop into Harimau Ground Fighting Postures and start striking the attackers ankles and knees, destroying his based and bringing him to the ground.

We be covering aspects of the Pukulan Cimande Combat Blueprint in classes from Monday 11th May to Thursday 21st May along with Advance Crane Mannerisms.

Spring Camp 2009

Spring Camp 25th - 26th April 2009
The camp this year took place in Kilrea a small picturesque town in N.Ireland. Kilrea was the birthplace of Silat in Ireland back in the 1980's. Over 45 students from both North and South attended the camp. After a brief Introduction Guru Besar Liam began the basic Speed drills and applications before moving on to various entries using Kelid and Selup from the Cimande Tari Kolot and how to apply locks, throws and takedowns to them. After the break, students were taught for the very first time in Ireland the Orangutan Ape subsystem of Pukulan Cimande Combat. This unique subsystem, helps blends combat aspects of the Monkey and Tiger together. Its a low crouching powerful smashing style, using hammer fists, elbows and Knees to the fore. For many of the student experiencing it for the first time, it help them connect these two animals for blending.

After the first day training students had opportunity to try out Go - Kart racing at the largest outdoor track in the UK. These karts had top speed of 120kph. It turn out to be a fantastic afternoon craic will some hair raising performances, which resulted in some dubious racing from some students?? After a quick wash and change all the students met up again at the evening banquet in the Manor Lodge which give students an opportunity to chat and meet up with old friends, this continued on to the early hours of the morning where the famous "craic" kept many a student awake with stories, songs wash down with the odd drink.

Next morning was early call for training beside the river. Guru Besar covered Jurus and showing how to add in breathing and meditation. This was a beautiful training session in early morning sunshine, surrounded by water and trees with just the sound of birds to break the silence.

After a hearty Ulster breakfast it was off to complete the final day training session and today students worked on the Crane Mannerism, and covered various kicks like Clip kick and Lead leg Joint Kick to movements of the Mad Rooster, Crane Footwork and conditional drills of Tenggel. Students finished the day off with some Knife Combat training based on Knife retractions and footwork.

Special Note should be given to Guru Jonathan O'Neill and Guru Baharau Alan Walsh and Guru Baharau Dave Murphy for earning their Guru Grades and they well deserved it, as they were put through a very tough Guru test, which left down the marker for all to follow.

I like to thank all the students who attended and made this weekend a great success. Its really good to see the art making great progress now, and everyone working together to promote Cimande. I look forward to the next camp and meeting you all again soon.

Shielding of the Upper Body

One of the main features of silat is the flowing hand movements. Most martial artist fail to understand the function of this. The flowing movements are to act as interceptors to the attackers strikes and to work as a decoy by funnelling the attackers strikes into a certain chosen target area for the defender to deal with either with by hit trapping, hard blocking, locking or with his own series of strikes towards the attackers hands, wrists forearms etc...

There is 4 main interceptors patterns that the silat player uses
1) The triangle (marked in red)
2) The figure 8 (mark in Yellow)
3) The circle (marked in Green)
4) The square (marked in Black)
The diagonal black lines represent the open hand decoy opening position one high and one low

These patterns allow the silat player to create a shield in front of his body, in much the same way window wipers are use on the car windscreen. Do they stop all strikes, no but they will connect with 70 - 80% of all strikes delivered towards the defender. Once intercepted the defender learns to destroy the attacker limbs so he cant use it again. This form of training helps students to learn to keep their hands up so they can protect the upper parts of their body.

You may notice the shielding describe here has no protection to the legs, that is another topic, which we deal with in another post, but in Silat the hands protect the body and face and the legs protect the lower body. If you look at the patterns you will notice very few parts of the body exposed.

When learning this at start practise slow and flowing, getting your body to move, add in your decoys, than when comfortable add in your strikes coming from the shield. We be working on this over the next two weeks in class and feel free to ask questions if needed.
