Below is the first part of a excellent and thought provoking article which was writen by Guru Penglima Derek Owings of Pukulan Cimande Kombinasi and top student of Guru Besar Jerry Jacobs. The concluding part can be found at http://www.studiorajanaga.blogspot.com/ I would highly recommended reading the full article

An in depth look at my favorite quote:"You are what your deep driving desire is. As your desire is so is your will. As your will is so is your deed. As your deed is so is your destiny" This is a quote from the ancient Hindu text the Upanishads.

It very simply states how we create our own suffering and happiness. If your deepest driving desire is negative, and by this I mean that the thing that you want most out of life, to be gained, will harm others or yourself in the process, then what good is the desired result. If it is your desire to gain material things then what happiness will you have if to get there you have to put down others or do things to compromise your character, harming yourself and those you love in the process. Then in the end when it is too late you realize that everything of material value does not go with you when you die and you have neglected what is of real value in life.Your will is your intent. If your intentions are wrong even the most honorable of acts is still negative. People who give to charity only to be seen by others as generous is an example. Your intention is the key. What is the intention behind what you do, what you say, or even think. This path of self inquiry can lead to some disturbing self realizations. Do you during a conversation always try to dominate or seem like you are right. Do you feel the need to vent all of your problems after you have lent a shoulder to cry on as if to say " well my life or situation is worse than that". Think about why you say and do what you do. Do you even have control over your actions?....................
